The BSGA announce public consultation stage of BS 559-2

The British Sign and Graphics Association (BSGA) is pleased to announce that the draft of ‘BS 559-2 Interior and exterior signs – Part 2: Inspection and maintenance – Specification’ has now been released for public consultation, marking an important milestone in the development of this British Standard.

BS 559-2 focuses on the inspection, maintenance and ongoing management of sign assets, and is designed to promote greater consistency, clearer responsibilities and improved safety outcome across the industry.

BS 559-2 forms part of the wider BS 559 series, with BS 559-1 addressing specification, design and installation, and Part 2 focusing on inspection, maintenance and ongoing asset management.

David Derbyshire, BSGA technical chair and chair of the committee responsible for developing the standard, said: “Standards are most effective when they reflect the realities of how an industry operates. BS 559-2 has been developed with practical application in mind, helping to support safer outcomes, clearer responsibilities and improved long-term management of sign assets.”

The public consultation provides an opportunity for members of the industry community and wider stakeholders to review the draft and submit comments before it is finalised.

The consultation is open until 19th August 2026, and comments can be submitted directly through the online portal following free registration.
